قاعدہ: اگر صفت اثباتی  (Positive degree)دو رکنی یا دو رکنی سے زائد لفظ پر مشتمل ہو، تو اس کی صفت تقابلی(Comparative Degree)  اور تفضیلی (Superlative Degree)  بناتے وقت صفت کے شروع میں more اور most کا اضافہ کرتے ہیں۔ 

تقابلی صفت میں more کا اضافہ کرتے ہیں اور تفضیلی صفت میں most کا اضافہ کرتے ہیں، جیسے: 

Beautiful خوب صورت

More beautiful زیادہ خوب صورت

Most beautifulسب سے زیادہ خوب صورت

This is a beautiful garden.  (Positive)

یہ ایک خوب صورت باغ ہے۔

This garden is more beautiful than that garden. (Comparative)

یہ باغ اس باغ سے زیادہ خوب صورت ہے۔

This is the most beautiful garden in the city. (Superlative)

یہ شہر میں سب سے زیادہ خوب صورت باغ ہے۔

Difficult مشکل ، دشوار

More difficult زیادہ مشکل

Most difficultسب سے زیادہ مشکل

It is a difficult lesson. (Positive)

یہ ایک مشکل سبق ہے۔

This lesson is more difficult than the previous lesson. (Comparative)

یہ سبق گزشتہ سبق سے زیادہ مشکل ہے۔

This is the most difficult lesson in the book. (Superlative)

یہ کتاب میں سب سے زیادہ مشکل سبق ہے۔

Hardworking محنتی

More hardworkingزیادہ محنتی

Most hardworkingسب سے زیادہ محنتی

He is a hardworking student. (Positive)

وہ ایک محنتی طالب علم ہے۔

Ahmad is more hardworking than Hamid. (Comparative)

احمد حامد سے زیادہ محنتی ہے۔

Mahmood is the most hardworking student in the class. (Superlative)

محمود کلاس میں سب سے زیادہ محنتی طالب علم ہے۔

Courageous             ہمتی

More courageous   زیادہ ہمتی

Most courageous      سب سے زیادہ ہمتی

He is a courageous boy. (Positive)

وہ ایک ہمتی لڑکا ہے۔

Ahmad is more courageous than Hamid. (Comparative)

احمد حامد سے زیادہ ہمتی ہے۔

Mahmood is the most courageous boy in the class. (Superlative)

محمود کلاس میں سب سے زیادہ ہمتی لڑکا ہے۔

Industrious مشقتی، کمیرا، جفاکش، محنتی

More industriousزیادہ جفاکش

Most industriousسب سے زیادہ جفاکش

He is an industrious worker. (Positive)

وہ ایک جفاکش مزدور ہے۔

My brother is more industrious than yours. (Comparative)

میرا بھائی تمھارے بھائی سے زیادہ جفاکش ہے۔

Hamid is the most industrious boy in the village.  (Superlative)

حامد گاؤں میں سب سےزیادہ جفاکش لڑکا ہے۔

قاعدہ: اگر دو صفتوں کا تقابل ایک ہی شخص کے اندر کیا جائے تو وہاں بھی er اور est کے بجائے more اور most کا استعمال کرتے ہوئے جملہ بنائیں گے، جیسے: 

احمد سمجھ دار ہونے کی بہ نسبت زیادہ بہادر ہے۔

Ahmad is more brave than prudent. 

اگر تقابل کسی دوسرے شخص سے ہو تو عام قاعدے کے مطابق جملہ بنایا جائے گا۔ جیسے :

Ahmad is braver than Hamid. 

قاعدہ: تقابلی جملہ بنانے میں تقابلی صفت کے بعد than کا استعمال کیا جاتا ہے، جیسے: 

Jauhar was bolder than Shaukat.

This balloon is redder than that one.

Kashmir is more beautiful than Kerala.

Writing is more difficult than speaking.
