Direct and Indirect Speech

روایت باللفظ اور روایت بالمعنی

·      ضابطے کے مطابق، سمپل پاسٹ کے جملے کو جب ان ڈائریکٹ اسپیچ میں تبدیل کرتے ہیں تو وہ جملہ پاسٹ پرفیکٹ میں تبدیل ہوجاتاہے۔ جیسے:

He said, “The guest came in the night.” (Direct speech)

He said that the guest had come in the night. (Indirect Speech)

·      اگر جملے میں موجود بیان (خبر) اب بھی وقت کے مطابق ہو یا وہ ایک کائناتی اور عالمی حقیقت ہوتو جملے کا زمانہ تبدیل کرنے اور نا کرنے کا اختیار ہوتا ہے، جیسے:

He said, “I know his address.” (Direct)

He said that he knows/knew his address. (Indirect)

The teacher said, “The earth goes round the sun.” (Direct Speech)

The teacher said that the earth goes/went round the sun. (Indirect Speech)

He said, “English is an easy language.” (D)

He said that English is/was an easy language. (Indirect speech) 

·        اگر رپورٹنگ ورب (Reporting Verb) زمانہ حال (Present Tense) میں ہو تو ڈائریکٹ اسپیچ کے زمانے تبدیل نہیں کیے جاتے ، جیسے:

He says that he is unwell. (Indirect Speech)

He has just said that his father is reading the Quran.

He says that he has passed the examination.

He says that the guest came in the night.

·     ڈائریکٹ اسپیچ کو ان ڈائریکٹ اسپیچ میں تبدیل کرتے وقت، ڈائریکٹ اسپیچ کی ضمیروں کوضرورت کے مطابق تبدیل کر دیا جاتا ہے، تاکہ ان کا ربط ناقل اور سامع کے درمیان ظاہر ہوسکے۔ جیسے:

He said to me, “I don’t like you.” (Direct speech)

He said (that) he didn’t like me. (Indirect speech)

She said to him, “I don’t like you.” (Direct speech)

She said (that) she didn’t like him. (Indirect speech)

I said to him, “I don’t like you.” (Direct speech)

I said (that) I didn’t like him. (Indirect speech)

I said to you, “I don’t like you.” (Direct speech)

I said (that) I didn’t like you. (Indirect speech)

·      وقت اور مکان میں قربت کا معنی بیان کرنے والے الفاظ کو ڈائریکٹ اسپیچ میں بعد(دوری) کا معنی بیان کرنے والے الفاظ میں تبدیل کر دیا جاتا ہے، جیسے:

Words (Nearness) becomes Words expressing (distance)
Now	اب	Then	تب
Here	یہاں	There	وہاں
Ago	قبل	Before	پہلے
Thus	اس طرح	So	ایسا، ویسا
Today	آج	That day	اس دن
Tomorrow	کل  (آئندہ)	The next day	اگلے دن
Yesterday	کل (گزشتہ)	The day before	ایک دن پہلے
Last night	گزشتہ رات	The night before	ایک رات پہلے
This	یہ	That	وہ

 Example:

He said, “I am glad to be here this evening.” (Direct Speech)

He said that he was glad to be there that evening.

نوٹ : اس جملے میں here تبدیل ہوکر there ہو گیا، this  تبدیل ہوکر that  ہوگیا۔
